It is amazing to me that the first big story tonight out of NO after the hurricane warnings went up was that Mayor Mitch Landrieu announced that the airport, nor the dome will be evacuation centers. One can only shake one's head at such talk at the beginning of this possible repeat scenario.
Then the Army Corps echo that the levies are much better now...with all the new improvements.
Doesn't this sound like another nightmare in the making?
Will people again stay under the false belief that it could not happen to them and this time the levies will hold? Some evacuations have already been ordered in a few parishes...Monday should be interesting to see if people will heed the warnings.
Plus, there are a lot of people living in those vunerable areas now who were not there in Katrina...how will they react? Many are non-English speaking people too and that creates an additional set of language barriers.
And, its an election year...so that will be thrown in the mix.
Ugh...this may get very, very ugly.
