70% as of 8PM EDT on 8/29 in the ATWO:
"SHOWERS AND THUNDERSTORMS ASSOCIATION WITH A BROAD AREA OF LOW PRESSURE LOCATED ABOUT 925 MILES WEST OF THE CAPE VERDE ISLANDS ARE SHOWING SIGNS OF ORGANIZATION. ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS APPEAR CONDUCIVE FOR A TROPICAL DEPRESSION TO FORM DURING THE NEXT DAY OR TWO AND THIS SYSTEM HAS A HIGH CHANCE...70 PERCENT...OF BECOMING A TROPICAL CYCLONE DURING THE NEXT 48 HOURS AS IT MOVES WESTWARD TO WEST-NORTHWESTWARD AT 15 TO 20 MPH. "
With the way it looks since, I would expect an upgrade at any time. For reference, the next name on the list is "Leslie".

Just a technical note: For some reason, the best track data for this storm was not updated at 8PM EDT. Not sure why, but that means models from the ATCF system were not released. |
