Commander Fleet Activities Okinawa

Good morning, Okinawa!

Well, my wishful thinking from last post has gone badly awry - this storm is REALLY stepping on the gas. Jelawat is now burbling this way at eight knots and looking like a SATURDAY AFTERNOON arrival - and still boresighted on Okinawa with a 13-mile closest-point-of-approach. Dang. The good news is we may have what will be a distinctly non-super typhoon out of our airspace by Sunday - giving everyone a full non-workday to drag broken tree limbs and de-sandbag our houses. SO GLAD it won't be interfering with my Monday. ;)

Jelawat's "biting teeth and snatching claws" will be pretty filed down by the time it arrives in our tropical paradise, with sustained winds of only 100 knots gusting to 120. I can't believe I'm considering 120-knot gusts evidence of a well-heeled, tame typhoon, but that's the sort of season we've been having. Jelawat is starting to look a little ragged, but still nothing to sneeze at.

If Jelawat keeps on this pace, we should hit TCCOR 3 sometime TODAY. Time to start stowing your gear, shipmates - Okinawa could be a doughnut-free zone by Saturday morning. :(

Stay tuned, stay safe! Stormy
