I was planning on checking on the storm in about 3 hours.... Sandy has built up some top covering clouds already and has moved the dry -26C air out of the center by about 150 miles. The width of this storm is awesome.

It will take a long time to pass over New Jersey, so if ten inches of rain falls within about 24 hours and causes some flooding then this might just shut things down for much of the week (about 7 inches on DC and 4 inches on NYC).

In about 6 hours I expect to have a good idea of the intensity of the winds at landfall. But I don't know how different this Frankenstorm may be as it it a strange storm having been merged with a cold front from the West.

I wonder how much data the NHC has to work with on these types of storms. I'm glad that the models seem to agree so well so far on Sandy's path.
