I just found this. I was using the map Chris posted http://preview.weather.gov/graphical/ then clicked in the Gulf of Mexico (GOM) area a little popup "Point Information" which stated the message below.
SEAS GIVEN AS SIGNIFICANT WAVE HEIGHT...WHICH IS THE AVERAGE HEIGHT OF THE HIGHEST 1/3 OF THE WAVES. INDIVIDUAL WAVES MAY BE MORE THAN TWICE THE SIGNIFICANT WAVE HEIGHT. GMZ001-082045- SYNOPSIS FOR THE GULF OF MEXICO 445 AM EDT SUN SEP 8 2013 ..SYNOPSIS...SURFACE RIDGE WILL PERSIST ACROSS THE NORTHERN GULF THROUGH TONIGHT BEFORE SHIFTING JUST N OF THE AREA MON. TROUGH OF LOW PRES COULD FORM OVER THE SOUTHWESTERN GULF AND THE BAY OF CAMPECHE IN A FEW DAYS AND SOME DEVELOPMENT OF THIS SYSTEM IS POSSIBLE BY MIDWEEK. $$ |
