I think you're right. The problem with a full end to end East Coast glancing blow and pass by is that it will make the waters near shore prone to rip currents, during THE major beach holiday weekend. It could also run off people from their beach weekends for that reason, up the seaboard.
Arthur is more dangerous offshore as a potential drowning threat and his economic impact out of people's concern and them staying away, than he would be if he just went ahead and made landfall somewhere and died out.
I hope people stay out of the water when they're told to. Alabama beaches have seen a number of drownings this year due to people getting in the water during bad squalls. And most, if not all of them, were people from far inland, vacationing, and not locals. I fear that same thing, with July 4th vacationers along the East Coast, being people not familiar and respectful of the ocean as those who live near it. |
