SHIPS has been off a few times this year.
Also wouldn't consider this a very slow year as we have had 2 named systems and are on the C storm when in most slow years we are working on the first real storm. Not to mention we have had a landfalling system. Seems pretty average to me.. and considering I've been around a while I can say that first hand and from best track statistics. We get spoiled in busy years. Been here many times in the 3rd week of August waiting for something to happen.
Arthur made landfall and Bertha went all the way to Europe.
Anyway.... the proof in any hurricane pudding is where we stand in September.
And, the ITCZ aka Monsoon Trough has come alive in the last few days. A week or so I was posting pics on the blog of an empty ITCZ.
