Gianmarc I would like to thank you for your post at 11:53am today.
Gianmarc is correct in that making such assessments predicting a Cat 5 hurricane for the Carolina area is very premature at this point.
He is correct that the Carolina's (North and South) have never recorded a Cat 5 hurricane hitting the coast....at least since recorded Meteorological records of the US,
Hurricanes Hazel and Hugo were both Cat 4. Gracie was a Cat 3....but in June 2016.....was upgraded to a Cat 4.
At present the NHA seems to be following the ECMWF model in their forecast track.....as least per their Discussion at 11:00am.
Also Weather Underground has a good discussion this morning...here is the link. https://www.wunderground.com/cat6/irma-intensifying-eastern-atlantic-big-long-range-questions
At this point in time it is far too early to predict where Irma may or may not strike. However everyone on the East Coast and the Gulf of Mexico should be aware and keep updated with current information. |
