Having lava slowly move toward your neighborhood is bad enough when it is moving slowly from miles away, above ground. But having lava erupt right under a neighborhood is bizarre. There's nothing you can do. You can't stop it or put out fires because it could open up right under you. If it was moving above ground from further away, you would have more time to move things out. But that's about it. Lava just goes where it wants and if there is enough only stops when it hits the ocean.
I can see why they don't want people in the park too if pressure from steam.
Depending on the wind, air quality could get more dangerous further away if there was a more explosive eruption.
