Northern GOM would mean more for East Texas to New Orleans. I honestly don't see that scenario playing out according to models, but you're right in that they should at least caution them so they don't let their guard down because anything can happen. I do tend to think this is more a storm from Mobile to the Big Bend of Florida with Appalachicola right in the middle of this. Most storms in this region tend to sneak more east than forecast, and if the center does reposition more east, then this will go more towards the central or even eastern Florida panhandle.
