I am posting the link to where I used to be able to get NOAA P-3 data. NOAA used to have additional storm data on this part of their site: https://www.aoml.noaa.gov/hrd/data_sub/hurr.html But it hasn't been updated in 2020. That data seems to not be available where it used to be. I went looking around to see what was available. NOAA is slowly updating their sites. On their new AOML site (https://www.aoml.noaa.gov/ ), you go to the "Data" tab and click "Hurricane Data" which takes you further down the page: https://www.aoml.noaa.gov/data-products/#hurricanedata You can then click "Hurricane Field Program" to get information on the 2020 hurricane season: https://www.aoml.noaa.gov/2020-hurricane-field-program/ There's various data on that page, but it doesn't contain current information like it used to. There are three PDF files near the top of the page that contain various information that was probably posted earlier in the year: Operations: https://www.aoml.noaa.gov/wp-content/uploads/2020/05/2_2020HFP_Operations.pdf That one says: "N43RF will be available as early as 10 June and N42RF is expected to be available on 20 August." So both P-3's will be available if needed later on. Instrument Descriptions: https://www.aoml.noaa.gov/wp-content/uploads/2020/05/3_2020HFP_InstrumentDescriptions.pdf Data Management Plan: https://www.aoml.noaa.gov/wp-content/uploads/2020/05/4_2020HFP_DataManagement.pdf Not much in the "Data Management Plan" file. But there is an important link. This one: https://seb.noaa.gov/pub/ That's the link where my site used to get NOAA P-3 radar data. In 2014 I had talked to someone at NOAA who said at the time the site was public, but it didn't have the infrastructure and bandwidth for the general public to go to and that it was meant more for internal use and for scientists. I first got the link in 2012 when the data was located on an FTP server. But now that file directs people to that link for data. So, I figured I would post it because I assume they have upgraded their capability for it to be viewed more widely. A lot has changed since 2014 I'm sure. There is a massive amount of data there. In a delayed manner, such as perhaps after the storm, radar data is posted here: https://seb.noaa.gov/pub/acdata/MMR-Testing/ But it's not in a format that is easily viewed. That folder is slow to load. I assume it is still being tested, as some of the files, and the folder name, seem to indicate. For Isaias radar data was posted August 4th. When you click on a folder you get a variety of other folders. "ScientificData" contains the files I would use if I could actually read the images, but you need to process them to be able to actually view them. It requires processing the data graphically. However, there is data that can be viewed sometimes. Again, this is all very delayed data, at least as of now. For this video I posted for Hanna after the storm: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=U2qFZSLAeng I created it from all the clips here: https://seb.noaa.gov/pub/acdata/MMR-Testing/N43_20200725I1FD_2020_07Jul_25_09_15_01/RRS/Avi/ 8.3 gigabytes of video files. I previously discussed that in this post: https://canetalk.com/2020/08/1596284725.shtml So you go to the "RRS" folder and then "AVI". Sometimes that is all in a single zip file, like this 3.6gb file here: https://seb.noaa.gov/pub/acdata/MMR-Testing/N43_202008031FD_2020_08Aug_03_08_51_53/RRS/Avi/ I would avoid downloading any data like that unless things are not busy. I wouldn't want to put extra stress on their server during a busy period. They do at times post screenshots, like this for Hanna: https://seb.noaa.gov/pub/acdata/MMR-Testing/N43_20200725I1FD_2020_07Jul_25_09_15_01/Recording/ScreenSnapShot/ Where you can see the eye. Those are just single image files, but a lot of times they don't have many screenshots. Sadly all this data is delayed. I can't yet use any of the real time radar data which I assume is here: https://seb.noaa.gov/pub/acdata/2020/RADAR/ Not even sure that is the right radar. Might just be the tail doppler radar. This is where I used to get the radar data for my site and HurricaneCity: https://seb.noaa.gov/pub/flight/IMG/ But that folder no longer updates since they upgraded the lower fuselage radar in the spring of 2018 to the MMR. (which at the time someone at NOAA said was Elta Multi Mode Radar) I hope it eventually returns, but they needed to do work out the issues and then redo it and I haven't asked about it since last year. I'll ask again next year perhaps. Among other data, when they had Coyote drones, this is where I got the data (nothing since 2018): https://seb.noaa.gov/pub/flight/coyote/ My site has a lot of out of date links that I need to update, but while viewing the new AOML site I saw this one: https://storm.aoml.noaa.gov/basin/?projectName=BASIN Tropical Tidbits (https://www.tropicaltidbits.com/analysis/models/ ) has better model data, but it's something else available. |
