Alligator, I'm sorry for your stress and hope you will go ahead and make those reservations if it will give you a little more peace. If it helps any, some or maybe all of the Hilton hotel chains are allowing no-charge cancellations up 'til 11:59 p.m. the day before arrival, for reservations thru August 31. Makes things a lot less worrisome. My reservation at Hilton's Hampton Inn is still in place, but am planning on canceling tomorrow presuming the storm tracks stay to our west as they currently are. We'll close our south shutters, take in our deck furniture, and be fine.

As for vehicles I totally get it and they often figure prominently in our evacuation decisions. I have the same situation as you; though I'm a couple of streets back from the Gulf, and my house is on pilings, our vehicles are parked in the garage below the house. Any significant surge would either ruin them at best, or carry them smashing through garage doors and/or walls and straight across the island into Santa Rosa Sound, as did happen with a couple of vehicles left on the island during Ivan.

I'll be thinking of you, as I also do always during storm threats, and hoping for a much easier time for you in all respects.
