People all across the west coast should be preparing. There has been, all will continue to be, a focus on Tampa Bay in the media because we don't get storms like this often and a lot of people live here, but as people south of Tampa have learned on multiple occasions, storms don't follow the line. Sometimes they don't even stay in the cone. I'm hardly even looking at the track much. Obviously I am watching that and the models too, but with all my neighbors I tell them we just don't know. If it's north of the mouth of Tampa Bay, and within a county or two northward I don't know, it's going to be really bad with the surge. South of the bay, have to worry more about the core of stronger winds than surge being higher than Helene. May not know until well after it's too late to evacuate, so people have to evacuate. (unless something drastically changes with the track) I'm preparing because it's headed my way. 100 miles north or south, or somewhere between, makes a huge difference, but I can't wait until things are more clear.

I bought two more rolls of plastic and 17 packages of plumber's putty tape at Lowes. Haven't tried that before. Would put it in the sliding glass door tracks. What I'm doing will not help for a direct hit north of the mouth of Tampa Bay, but in case the track varies enough that the surge was less, may save stuff higher up that might do better if a bit less water got in. Some of that might help if it made landfall a few counties north of Tampa Bay. South of Tampa Bay, depending on how far south, it could actually at some point withdraw some of the water from the bay so much so that you could walks out on parts of it. (but don't do that, it's dangerous) Big difference for surge as to north or south of the bay. I assume the same is true for Charlotte Harbor where Port Charlotte and Punta Gorda is. (that got Charley in 2004)
