It is an indication that the tropopause is rising.

So, that means the whole atmosphere is expanding in the convection.  That shows a strengthening warm core.

If you see a cauliflower-looking cloud pop through the cirrus-canopy on VIS; it means it would be higher than 55k-ft.  That would be a clear indication of a hot-tower.

Hot-towers in the Atlantic are notorious for setting off rapid-intensification (RI).
