I was comparing SSTs and TCHP over the whole basin this morning.

There's a VERY deep eddy of ~100-130 TCHP drifting slowly SW in the Caribbean. Not to mention that there's generally higher TCHP over the whole basin than in any other year on record.

Also, I think the most alarming point here is that in spite of the cold start to GOM SSTs, they've rebounded and overtaken 2005 temps already... yeah.. already. And, SSTs around the Cape Verde Islands are touching 27-28C. Usually they're 24-25C right now.

Of course you need the upper-level support for storm generation and development, but from a sole SST standpoint, this just looks bad.
