Long Island Hurricane Seminar Feedback

A NWS expert was there as well as some officials from the countys.  There are a couple of things that really bother me about what was discussed.

First, they say that Long Island has NO food warehouses.  We have a stockpile of 2 days worth of food from all the grocery stores.  They said they have no exacuation plans in place yet....  you would think after gloria in 1985 there would be one.....   They tried to educate us to stay where you are and hunker down, survival stuff.  this was good, but i'm not going to keep my family here if anything over a cat 1 approaches the coast.  Gloria, barely a one, and me only 12 years old at the time, had an everlasting effect on me...

NWS explained their advances in hurricane path predictions and promised to have a 3 day advanced hurricane watch / advisory issued in advance for us.   They also say the it only takes 10 hours for a hurricane to go from N. Carolina / Virginia to Long Island..   So does anybody think they will issue a hurricane watch to Long Island if a system is intensifying off lets say the carribean and expected to slam into long island / nyc.  No way, lol......   They cant and prob. wont have that accurateness for many years to come.  not blameing them, i just know how difficult it is to tell where these things are going that far in advance.

There were about 40 people attending this meeting.  I would expect thousands.  How fast one choses to forget.  Ask anybody here, they all have the same mind set.  we never get hit, it wont happen here.  I haven't forgotton after 24 years and we are due for a disaster here, i'm talking about a cat 2 / 3 .  Given the water temps, and i have never seen pockets of 90 degree water temps close to our coast before, and look how early in the summer we are
