Wish I knew about this seminar I would have went..where was this held? was this the one at Nassau Community College?

I read an article from the drill at Nassau Communty College. Not sure if I posted the Article here or not. There is on thing that was said that is very scary!!!here is a quote

"In a hurricane as big as the one that hit in 1938, the Red Cross would open 45 shelters throughout Nassau and Suffolk, which could accommodate 60,000 people. We're as prepared as we can be," said Ken Norman, the project manager for emergency preparedness at Nassau Community College and a team unit leader at the simulation."

Ummmm shelter for only 60,000 people????? 2009 estimate population in Nassau County-
1,357,429,Suffolk County-1,518,475... So you have shelter for 60,000 people where the population is near 3,000,000.Hmmmm,yeh that will work..And they say they are as prepared as we can be.

MarkoNY,you are so correct when you say people here say we wont get hit, water temps are to cold here for a hurricane, they always curve out to see before they rech here.I have heard it all.

"They said they have no evacuation plans in place yet....  you would think after gloria in 1985 there would be one".................Not just gloria, they should have one in place after the Nor'easter of 92 and 93,and Tropical Storm Floyd.

It is very scary,We are definatly not prepared and it is not going to be pretty when we get hit!!.

I think the only way we will ever be prepared is to get hit by a hurricane. You learn from your mistakes and this is one big mistake not being prepared!!!!!!
