Re: Let's be real here . . .

The bottom line is this: Those people (and I know, I was one of them for decades) will NEVER awaken to the reality of their situation until it buries them with another 1938 event, and even then I believe that my fellow New Yorkers will have short memories. That's just how it is, and no hypothetical scenario or doomsday prediction will do anything to change that.

I totally agree. But  the EMO'S,and other emergency response units will definatly change there ways and thinking when we do get hit.

Another thing that I hear people say that annoys me is.. We survived Gloria, damage was bad but we made it through,so if we get another storm like that we will be fine....Here is the problem with that.Coastline has changed, more population.Every storm is not the same.We can have the same winds, pressure, rainfall as Gloria, but the location, time it hits, size ,along with the change in population, and coastline. will make a hugh difference!!!!

With all the changes here since 1938 I think a CAT 2 storm here might do the same damage if not worse then the 38 cane did.And if we get a repeat of the 38 storm,it will be 10x worse today then it was back then.
