how active the season has been so far? It is July 28 and we are up to Don. This is behind 2005's pace obviously, but directly on pace with 1995.
There are a couple of viable waves out there, besides Don. One very near the Antilles and one in the mid-Atlantic. Don, himself, is coming together, with storms attempting to fire over the center and having some modicum of success.
Small side note: The easterly/ENE-ly flow is very evident on satellite, and it has Don trucking toward just N of WNW and likely will until landfall. Corpus Christi or just south of there seems to be a bullseye point for the easterly flow and Don is entrenched in that flow. I think he may be able to gain a little more strength, if the storms continue to have success over the center, but I think a 70 mph TS is going to be the highest possible scenario for Don.
Again, a surprisingly inhospitable Gulf of Mexico dampens a storm's otherwise possible potential. Very reminiscent of 2009 and 2010 conditions in the Gulf so far. |
