CHECKING IN FROM CENTRAL LONG ISLAND ....

Hello to everyone on the board - I have been a member here since the website's infancy - I was in Hurricane Jeanne & Frances down in Port St Lucie FL in 2004 - I called in to Jim's live shows from the eye of both storms - They were much stronger storms and caused both superficial and structural damage.

While it doesn't compare to the two storms I just referenced - Hurricane/Tropical Storm Irene - was by far the strongest storm we've had on LI since Hurricane Gloria - people that compare it to a Noreaster are clueless. This storm was much stronger and caused quite a bit of damage, most of it  from fallen trees/downed power lines - I will personally be without power until at least Friday as my area (Selden, NY) sustained extensive damage.

It's funny with hurricanes - they're real fun to talk about & track - but once they're on your doorstep they are what they are - Big, nasty & destructive. There are downed trees & power lines at every corner. This may not have been "the big one" that many had forecasted but it was more than big & bad enough for me. Many, many Long Islanders are suffering through the inconveniece of being without power & having their lives severely disrupted.

I Think the people on this board do a tremendous job of providing useful information to anyone who may be in harms way of one of these big. powerful storms. Irene packed a punch - I just hope that the next time one of these storms is headed our way people don't get complacent & ignore their local officials.

Thanks again to all.
