I think it was more the pressure reading. Not sure where it came from, but in the 5PM advisory it was estimated to be 1007mb. Then it is 995 mb. The winds were estimated based on the pressure. Then it seems like they probably used something like Dvorak:

Just a note but the hurricane scale has changed every so slightly and that page has not been updated. Changes: 3 (from 97-113 KTS to 97-111 KTS), 4 (from 114-135 KTS to 113-136 KTS) 5 (from 136+  KTS to 137 knots or greater)
