Re: Open Mike 2011 and thoughts about traveling in a vehicle and getting caught by a storm

Bottom line, very scary. TWC has done a great service warning and educating  people over the years...and the Torcon Index is becoming a well recognized measurement to pay attention to.  It is sad that this happened although it is not the first time these professionals got caught in a storm...remember Cantore and the hurricane?

I wonder just how many close calls TWC has had.  A recent experience like the one that just happened would sure cure me from chasing.  There is something chilling seeing those red Xs on TWC vehicle.

On another note. I think that there should be some rethinking on the advice for people IF you are on a freeway and caught in a car.  The conventional wisdom is not to hide under an overpass....but at least you have steel beams above you and some protection from flying debris. Laying in a ditch just doesn't sound like a great idea either...for several reasons like snakes or if you get knocked out and it is pouring...that is not good.  Plus, you are out in open and could get picked up and or hit by debris.

A car is scary too...but more survivable that nothing don't you think? I think that if they would've stopped the car and got in the ditch, they would all be dead.
