Or, Chris, there are a lot (like me) who are intimately interested and checking regularly, but who don't have anything to add to the discussion, at least not from a technical standpoint.
From the human side, though, I can tell you folks there are many, many events and festivals all along the northern Gulf Coast, including the wildly popular Santa Rosa Island Triathlon here on Pensacola Beach, which are being canceled ahead of this storm, to the disappointment of tens of thousands of locals, visitors, and the hotels, restaurants and shops that were counting on serving them this weekend. There's no way to measure the economic harm this will do, especially given everything else going on in the country, and in our highly military-dependent area, related to the partial government shutdown. Even if Karen does no physical damage (let's hope!), her effects are already very, very costly. |
