Euro changed their intensity last minute. All along them and the GFS (except the GFS in the very beginning) were calling for this thing to be pretty much shredded apart in the Gulf.

Many of us were saying we didn't think there was any way it could survive the shear the last 24 hours before landfall. The conditions were supposed to be hostile. And out of nowhere, the shear never really occurred the last 12 hours before landfall.

In reality, it actually did the opposite of Katrina and many Gulf Coast storms where it actually got its strongest right before landfall. I honestly think by the look of it it was probably at least a cat. 2 storm. It had a very tight eye at landfall with strong storms around it.
