Re: Vaccines are hard to get, but older people should look into how to get them where they live

I should add that people should look into how a second appointment occurs. In some of the instances I have seen, you make a second appointment either when you are able to make the first appointment or when you are actually at your first appointment. I don't like some of the moves to not hold back any of the vaccine, though it's confusing. They need to hold back enough so that the second does is guaranteed. If the federal government was doing that, and the local governments were doing that, then one of them wouldn't have to do that. But someone does. I was a little concerned about making an appointment now because I wasn't sure how things might change. You wouldn't want to end up not getting the second dose when you are supposed to. The two vaccines currently being distributed are safe and effective, around 95%, on the schedule they have. (Pfizer, 21 days between doses and for Moderna, 28 days) The U.K. have lost their minds in possibly delaying the second dose by months and/or perhaps giving people a different vaccine for the second shot. That kind of thing hasn't been determined to be safe and effective. Just make sure to ask, if you get a hold of someone, or look online, how a second appointment works. I asked my county on Twitter last week and they replied to let me know that you make the second appointment when you get the 1st shot. This week they changed it to you make both appointments at the same time. They also have a lot more information online than they did previously. They're getting better at this.

I also made my dad's appointments early in the morning, the first window of the day available. That might not be an option for some people. But since I could choose, I wanted it early so he could be first in line and they wouldn't be backed up. In my county, you aren't supposed to arrive before your appointment window, or they will turn you away to come back, but if you are in the first appointment window of the day, they might not mind a line if it's not a line in the road. It seems to be in a big parking lot where my dad is getting it. You drive through, you never have to get out of the car. That was also a benefit compared to some other options, like waiting in a line with a bunch of other people. That is also something people need to consider. It's good to start doing the research on it even if you don't meet the qualifications yet. They might change the procedure along the way, like they did a bit in my county week to week, but it's good to know how it's working and get somewhat familiar with the process.
