That's really cool. I didn't know you could even really get to see shuttle landings. I had been to a few shuttle launches, but I was never there for a shuttle landing and I can't remember if I ever saw reentry from Tampa. From my house in Tampa I could see shuttle launches and I can still see other launches from the Cape if there is clear weather. Early morning ones are really neat, just before sunrise, when the light shines on the contrail or gasses, it lights it up against the dark sky.
The National Weather Service in Ruskin, Florida, where Tampa's NEXRAD radar is, got this view behind the radar dome:
It really was neat to see. I kept missing it previously. I would forget or just didn't hear about it beforehand. The local news I watch here used to talk about when it would happen in advance, now only after, if at all. Since it came over Tampa they did have it on the news this evening when they showed the video above. |
