I always forget about those drones. The blog on their page mentioning Idalia:
https://pmel.noaa.gov/saildrone-hurricane/2023/mission-blog-2023.html

I see a few of the Saildrones on their map could potentially be around Lee.

I also forget about the buoys too, like the one you posted about, and their cameras as well.

Technology is getting more and more awesome in a lot of ways. I look forward to when something can simply stay in the eye of a storm taking pressure readings. And maybe something else sampling in and out of the eyewall. (but that would be very difficult for strong storms)

I was looking at the blog at a previous entry with a picture of SD-1045 and about it having gone into Hurricane Sam in 2021 as mentioned here:

https://www.saildrone.com/missions/atlantic-hurricane-monitoring

I didn't realize it encountered such high winds and waves.

I was looking on this page:
https://www.pmel.noaa.gov/ocs/saildrone

And it says: "With a speed through the water of 2-8kts, they have a range of more than 16,000 nautical miles, and endurance of up to 12 months."

So it wouldn't be able to keep up with a lot of storms.
