Speculation that this El Nino may be a different variety--leading to MORE hurricanes

They call this type of El Nino "Modoki". The warm water collects not so much in the Eastern Pacific off South America, but more so in the central Pacific. The last "Modoki El Nino" year was 2004 the year when Florida was hit particulary hard (Charley, Frances, and Jeanne) and Al-Fl was inundated by Ivan. There may be something to this. This El Nino appears to be a strange one in the sense that all signs pointed to a significant one, and some of the weather patterns in the Indian Ocean and Australia confirm that we have one, but measurments closer to home (Eastern Pacific) suggest a flattening El Nino. Here's the article.
