MESOSCALE DISCUSSION 1165 NWS STORM PREDICTION CENTER NORMAN OK 1017 AM CDT WED JUN 30 2010 AREAS AFFECTED...LOWER TX COAST AND SOUTH TX CONCERNING...SEVERE POTENTIAL...TORNADO WATCH LIKELY VALID 301517Z - 301645Z THE NATIONAL HURRICANE CENTER CURRENTLY PLACES HURRICANE ALEX ABOUT 190 STATUE MILES SOUTH OF BROWNSVILLE WITH THE INNER BANDS OF ALEX EXTENDING NORTH FROM THE CENTER ACROSS BROWNSVILLE AND PADRE ISLAND. ANOTHER BAND IS SITUATED JUST OFFSHORE FROM CORPUS CHRISTI. WSR-88D VWPS ALONG THE LOWER TX COAST SHOW 30 TO 35 KT OF 0-1 KM SHEAR WHICH SHOULD BE FAVORABLE FOR ROTATING STORMS WITH THE STRONGER CELL ELEMENTS AS THE RAINBANDS MOVE INLAND. THE MOST FAVORABLE AREA FOR TORNADOES WILL LIKELY BE IN THE VICINITY OF PADRE ISLAND AND BROWNSVILLE WHERE OBJECTIVE ANALYSIS SHOWS PRECIPITABLE WATER VALUES MAXIMIZED IN THE 2.6 TO 2.8 INCH RANGE. ..BROYLES.. 06/30/2010
