Jac,
The eyewall has not been able to close off with a ring of intense convection. The core is also separated from the outer core by a layer of dry stable air which Alex has not been able to mix out since yesterday. In addition, mircrowave imagery shows a large circulation which as not been able to meet with the 960mb pressures. Therefore, the winds have very slowly been increasing, usual but the case. Radar loop clearly shows my points. Shear is less than 5kts and the core still has a few hours before landfall. Winds could final (at) 90-95mph???
