I'm sorry about this Cypress---All we can do is hope that its a minimal experience in Galveston and that the area can continue with some degree of normalcy. Perhaps the oil won't extend that far from the spill site in the amounts we're used to seeing from La-Fl. However, I'm already accustomed to seeing local officials make valiant efforts to minimize the problem, only to see the full impact begin a week or two later. I'm reminded of a morning news show which I often watch "Morning Joe" on MSNBC. The host is from Pensacola, and as the spill spread in that direction he brought his co-host with him to the beach in Pensacola and had local officials there talking about how its was only a few tarballs and that people were still swimming there (which was true). But a week or so later, the real sludge showed up and practically everything along the beach was almost in shut down mode. It looks as though the hurricane season will be a major factor in how far west the oil spreads, so as the season progresses we should get a better idea of how Galveston fares. |
