The NOAA jet mission has started

So later tonight / early tomorrow morning, the models should have some better data to work with.

(That plan is apparently tomorrow's, could not find today's plan)

They sample the area around the storm, rather than in it, at a high altitude. They drop sondes so that they can measure pressure, wind, and temperature all the way down to the surface. That data gets into the models and can help the models get a better idea of steering.
