Hi Rick

I am still thinking about Karl.

It wasn't a shear induced MCS that had a MCV build up from it to maintain the steady stratiform precip.

One thing was sure, it always flared early in the morning right at the diurnal max when upper air temps were their lowest.

I am still kicking around the idea of a mid level PV that finally made it to the surface.

How that happened I am not sure.

One clue that indicated a shift in its structure was that when deep convection fired, it usually was to the east of the 850mb vorticity max.

The day before is spun up, the convection shifted to the west of the vort-max.

Still researching.  Going to read up more on Kelvin waves.

Let me know if you have any ideas.
