Announcement on Birds Point coming at 5 p.m.

Maj. Gen. Michael Walsh of the Army Corps of Engineers will make an announcement about the Birds Point levee at 5 p.m., corps representatives at Sikeston said just after 2 p.m. Monday.
Corps spokesman Jim Pogue wouldn't say what the general's announcement would be.
Walsh is the head of the Mississippi River Commission and the man charged with making a decision on the intentional breach of the levee.
The breach would flood about 200 acres of prime farm land in Mississippi County, Mo., in order to relieve pressure on other points of the river flood-control system, including at Cairo, Ill.
