This is why the Mississippi river should have never been damed up to begin with.  The flood plains are there for a reason, not to build up on them.  In the past the Mississippi river helped fertilize  the farmland and deposited nutrients to the soil and this also traveled down into the gulf where the deposits could travel and build up the barrier islands against hurricanes.  Upon the growth of New Orleans and other areas of the Mississippi river have been growing in population, dams and leeve's have been built to which these deposit rich in nutients are now not able to flow down naturally like they used to and now the gulf is beginning to see their barrier island dissappear and then wonder why?..hellp people get a clue..Mother nature does stuff for a reason and then we go in and dispalce mother nature....No wonder mother nature is taking a turn on us...she's pissed...
