Re: Did atmosphere give warning of Japan quake?

That is the one thing that I had to laugh about when I read the papers.

Obviously, these guys know better, but they had to pull something out of the air to give a "natural" explanation of how the ionosphere is heated,

First of all, the Japan quake was under water.

So, if radon gas does come out of cracks near the fault, it would get quickly dispersed in the ocean.

Second, radon is a heavy isotope.  The gas is dense and will by no means drift 50km or so up into the ionosphere.

If somehow it does just drift up that high, it will hit heavy turbulence in the tropopause and get dispersed there as well.

They are smart.  They know what is really going.  Just can't go mainstream with it if they want to get published.
