| Technology back then was not as diverse as it is now. Today satelite imagage has allowed us to see more into what is going on with storms vice 20 yrs ago so yes that is why we have a higher number of named storms, pluse we are better able to track storms well before they develop and keep an eye on them. If you look back at historic maps of the the 1960's to the 1980's you will see there were less named storms then too, but then you also have to factor in (and I hate using this term because I think it's bogus IMO) global warming factor of the earth. The sea temperatures are alot warmer than they were 30 yrs ago. |
