Shalista...

Evacuations in this and other coastal areas are very methodical and carefully planned. They work inward from the greatest risk but also take in account the number - or lack of - available roads/bridges/flooding. The evac is ongoing from NC now...many head to this area (not wise this time) so those roads are very busy.

You can only dump so many vehicles on roads and freeways at a time. Remember, at some point, gas stations can run out of gas and resupply may be stopped until after the storm. That is why TODAY is when you want to fill up all vehicles.

The nightmare that emergency planners dream is that thousands of people will get caught on the road in the storm....that is frightening as they get cut off from help/rescue etc. as flooding and wind damage/ blocked roads occur and tornados hit.

The next phase will come as the watches/warnings extend. You will soon hear that they will be making I 64 one way...OUT.

Lots of planning here...not perfect...as there is no REAL test until the actual situation.
