I say strong Cat 1 with the potential for a Cat 2-type storm surge due to the storm's size and the speed at which it may approach Long Island. Because it will accelerate up the coast, it may only have weakened to Cat 1 shortly before making landfall, which means its storm surge will most likely still be more formidable than one might expect of a Cat 1.
Like I said last night, water is the main threat here--not wind. Flooding and storm surge are really going to take a toll on an area that already has had more rain that it knows what to do with. |
