I agree on the surge, but also have another point. As the water shallows up- and Lord knows we have ALOT of shelf off of La, water temp can also change correct? If it is shallower, it will heat up pretty quickly- and you may not have that cold water "upwelling" that you may get in deeper water. I dunno, but I seem to recall certain "hot spots" the GOM has when the water starts to shallow up.
