If it does gain some latitude in the Gulf it may finally steer clear of the shear. I have seen many storms in the past decade, and even going back to Frances in 2004, get essentially "shadowed" by the phenomenon that is responsible for the wind shear. In this case, the anticyclone that has pursued it across the Atlantic.
