If it gets close but not landfall on East Coast, at least the RUQ would be offshore. Worst case of that would be that she rides up the Chesapeake Bay. Points along that and north could really have issues with surge especially. I see that it may drop under hurricane strength in the next 24 hrs or so but the meat of the system is there so once out of the shear area she may rapidly intensify.....that Gulf Stream is pretty toasty right now, I believe.

Appreciate all the conjecture.....hopefully, by the weekend the picture will be more clear. However, considering all the advance prep needed....and the military needing to pull out the ships and planes, that is cutting it close. Problem is right now the Navy would be playing dodge ball, not sure if you send the ships south or north to get around the storm. Those that cannot get underway like the hospital ship, USNS Comfort,https://gcaptain.com/usns-comfort-ordered-to-colombia-but-the-future-remains-uncertain-for-the-hospital-ship/ have to be really buttoned down next to the piers. Tricky forecast for sure. For those that may not know, these huge shipyards often have ships in drydock. They cut holes in the bottom to pull in huge pieces of equipment in and out. When they go to various hurricane conditions, they have to quickly weld a temp cover over those huge spaces - no easy feat. Dry docks are below sea level.

One of the many, many drydocks in this area at govt and private shipyards. This one has a fascinating history and is still in use today about 3 miles from me. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Drydock_Number_One,_Norfolk_Naval_Shipyard
