I think the NHC is low on the landfall intensity. It's recovering from it's eyewall replacement cycle.

Recon is not in there right now. NOAA G-IV is sampling around the storm. When the Air Force returns later, I think they are going to find it a lot stronger.

It's looking a lot better on water vapor too. The eye is clearing out. The core is looking a lot more symmetric.

In the 11am EDT Tuesday NHC discussion they talked about how the hurricane had flight level winds that would normally equate to a stronger storm, but about 15 to 20 mph. But the pressure was higher and the surface winds estimated by SFMR showed it didn't have those winds at that time. But it's gotten a lot better organized since then.
