According to the FC discussion, Michael is expected to turn more to the NW either later today or tomorrow. I really do hope that people in Alabama, and even Miss. are watching this storm closely.
Yes, forecast skills and accuracy has improved greatly since August 1969 when Camille was predicted to strike the Florida Panhandle, and then plowed into the Miss coast not even 48 hours later. That said,as some of you might be aware, the NHC and the NWS are dealing with some rather serious funding issues. We can only hope those funding issues do not prove to be he cause of a failure to forecast, what could or would be a catastrophic shift in Michael's track to the west.
The old saying if it has happened before, it can happen again, applies to this storm and a shift towards the west that I am very wary of. |
