Re: he was referring to WU, not NWS, regarding the smoothed detail, etc

The concern is that they only have that interactive map at NOAA. I haven't looked into it, but I don't know what they are going to have. They do have a "Local Radar" option but I don't know what that is.

Switching from Flash to JavaScript using the existing imagery they have wouldn't be very hard. It would probably take them a couple days it if they just updated that. I've been wondering why they haven't. It's so easy to do. I could code up something that would probably work within a week. Maybe a month to make it look nice. Flash definitely needs to go. I'm going to switch the charts I have in Flash to JavaScript sometime early next year.

But if they only have the interactive map, what will the detail be? Will it still be detailed when you zoom in, or even more so perhaps? Will they have velocity data? Can you view single site radar? That interactive map shows all the radars on one image. Sometimes I want to see the data from a single radar site. One radar site might have issues, whether seeing through rain, the distance from the radar site, seeing whether multiple radar sites pick something up and other issues. I definitely want single radar site data still.

While I see a big range of colors still, I can't tell if the detail will be the same when it come to the pixels. NOAA's site doesn't seem to be smoothed anywhere close to what Underground has, but I can't tell if it is smoothed some or not.

I wish NOAA would offer a lot more options. I wish they would offer all the options the Weather Underground has for data in their NEXRAD radar display. (including multiple radar angles) If Weather Underground ever quits that, I don't know where I would get good radar data for free. There's some apps you pay for that have really detailed data and a lot of options, but I'm not paying for it.

Speaking of radar data, I've been working some on my map of radar sites some again at times:
http://tropicalatlantic.com/radars/

The WMO Radar Database updated their site a few weeks ago to be like mine, everything on one map, but my site is still better for the radar sites I have:
https://wrd.mgm.gov.tr/

When it comes to locations. I look for the actual radar sites. The WMO relies on what meteorological agencies say and that is sometimes rather wrong. And they make mistakes inputting the data. I've been working on Italy recently but haven't added that data yet.

I also plan to build my own radar display for US data when I get around to it. I'm going to use data from Iowa State. ( https://mesonet.agron.iastate.edu/GIS/ ) And build a display that lets you view long loops and have various options on an interactive map. They don't have rounding on their site. It will have velocity data too. And the loop will last for at least 24 hours I think. Maybe up to 48 hours. It's been a month since I last looked into it. The reason I originally wanted the display is that the U.S. has two radar sites in South Korea and one in Japan that do have data available. The only problem is that there is really no one that has that data available in a display that you can see it. So I decided I need to build a display for those sites and it isn't much more difficult to build the display for all U.S. radar sites, including TDWR sites near airports. And the loops can be very long. And it can have labels on the map since it is an interactive map. (This site has long loops, but doesn't have labels: https://weather.cod.edu/satrad/nexrad/ ) I don't like interactive maps as much, but you would be able to choose imagery from a single radar site. It's on my very long list of things to do. I want to eventually integrate it into the model system.
