Re: High impacts considering lower amount of named storms.

It's easy to forget all the places storms have impacted this year until seeing it graphically.

For the past few days the next area has been mentioned as possible activity in early November by one local news station. Then today they said it was all over social media and I knew that a run must have finally showed it being near the previous few storms. I remember being on YouTube, I think just after Milton, and I guess there were two possible storms that could have formed within 16 days based on the GFS as I remember seeing a thumbnail for a video with over a million views, that had been posted just the day before. Maybe 1.3 million if I recall. It was from some random channel I had never heard of and I didn't click it or the video. But I realize now that there is a huge market for people scaring people about storms that may or may not ever form. There may be a storm in the next few weeks, that's really the only takeaway at this point. But some parts of social media want to scare the heck out of people once they have a run that supports it. I've heard about the hype on social media before, but until I saw the number of views on that video, I never realized the extent of it. It's just not something I run into as I don't use social media much.

Of course the GFS has been all over the place with what could be the next storm. Some of the runs could tick off some more cities in the database that have yet to be impacted. We could be several days until the NHC might mention the possibility of formation in the western Carib if it still shows it. But I've been watching the GFS daily since the last few storms. I've liked how things have gotten more and more pushed back. I'm hoping for cooler weather and more fronts blocking things.

I'm pretty sure what became Nadine, or something around where it formed, was on the GFS around the time of Milton and it looked like it could hit Florida as a major hurricane. Instead it went into Belize as a tropical storm. So the million view video got its views and I'm sure they were happy with it. Runs change. I bet there's another video like it.

Instead of Florida, Nadine's remnants went to the east Pacific and now it's a 155mph hurricane.

But for now, GFS has been persistent in suggesting there could be something in early November.

Sometimes it has more than one across the basin. This could be a year where we go into December too, we'll have to see. I'd like to see the water cool off some so the potential intensities come down some though.
