For people with some storm shutters, pressing a button is literally all they have to do. The future is now! For a price of course. For those who can afford it, building an expensive house on land higher up, with hurricane resistant windows and doors, plus storm shutters that you can drop with a press of a button. That's the way to go. And of course they would be well built homes, where from the foundation to the roof everything is secured to each other very well. Stronger building codes help.

However, some people are running into issues where they are being priced out after receiving damage. I forgot there's a rule if the damage is 50% or more of the value of the home, you can't fix it. You have to build to code and many people won't be able to pay to rebuild the house. I was seeing that on the local news today. Some people are just selling and trying to get out of the region. Some by choice and some because they have to.

Whether water or wind, it's hard, and costly, to make a house stronger and less vulnerable to storms.
