on preparing trees for a storm:

never considered that drought conditions preceding a storm would make them more susceptible. also, in our neighborhood anyway, people water their oak trees too much, it will keep their roots closer to the topsoil if they don't have to reach deep for a drink - makes a weaker tree, even if it looks healthier in the short term
