Hi AquaRN,
Have really not been able to figure out when or if there'll be a heavier odor as far as the heat's concerned, maybe since we don't have the heaviest of oil concentrations nearby. Seems to be more wind-directional related (especially, it would appear, when there are controlled surface burns going on anywhere in the vicinity), and even then it's not consistent.  Would have to say since all this began have really only had four or five days when the odor was particularly noticeable.  It's obnoxious enough at this distance and I don't know how those closer to the spill can bear it.

Following is the standard language included in the daily disaster response updates we receive from our county Emergency Operations Center, more widely broadcast when conditions warrant:

"Gulf coast residents may detect an odor because of the oil spill. Some are more sensitive to these odors and may experience nasal irritation and feelings of nausea. In combination with seasonal allergies or pre-existing respiratory conditions, some may experience more severe symptoms. For Air Quality Reports, see http://www.epa.gov/bpspill/air.html.  Individuals who have pre-existing medical conditions, such as asthma or other respiratory illness should contact their health care provider if feeling symptomatic."

Hope this answers you.  Best,    BL
