I'm in Fort Walton Beach, FL on Okaloosa Island. Jim had my pics of the arrival of oil on our beaches last Wednesday on the Tropical Update.  The activity on the beaches has picked up  with local workers hired by BP working short shifts during the day but due to the heat are now working mostly at night and numerous helicopters and beach patrols.  Actually saw a BP helicopter this morning. The oil has relented for a few days and has moved further east but according to the local paper today, we are gearing up for a second strong wave of weathered oil to hit shores Monday.  Local EM officials are saying we could have another day like last Wednesday and that we should get used to a long term cycle of "onslaughts" followed by "reprieves".  Like Beachlover to my west,  the smell is intermittent and tied to the burning and wind direction.  Our tourists seem to still be coming and I have spoken to a few in my building who stated that they specifically came to support the area.  I'm not sure if the fish and wildlife are moving closer in but I still dolphins and sting rays and strangely, the Cobia are running hard which I have never heard of this late into June. All the Destin boats are out and running along the coast.  We have had only a few reports of oiled wildlife up until now but that may change soon.  Waters are open and as beautiful as ever - such a strange paradox.
